Recent research shows that millions of youth in this country remain at risk of dropping out of school, developing substance abuse problems, becoming pregnant or ending up in the juvenile justice system.

According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation's annual Kids Count Report (2005), Arizona leads the nation in percentage of youth who are high school dropouts, teenage parents, children in poverty, and children in single-parent households.  Other research suggests that mentoring programs, which offer youth a chance to develop a meaningful relationship with a caring adult, encourage healthier behaviors and decision making.  In short, promoting mentoring for at-risk youth can bring about positive changes.  Because of the in-person time demands imposed by many mentoring programs, the waiting lists are long for those youth that both need and want a mentor, and most will likely never have one.  By providing mentors virtually, more youth are given the opportunity to have a committed adult in their life.

MentorE launched its e-mentoring program in January of 2006 and is working to improve the lives of youth in Mesa, AZ.  Read more on e-mentoring.
